News in version 1.2

Buttonbar

Menu Buttons Version 1.2 of the Analysis Extension is now shipping and contains some considerable changes. It contains several new tools plus has a new more user-friendly interface. You can now reach the commands from three different places: the menu, the buttonbar and from a new floating button bar. You can also configure which options you would like to appear where. There is no point in having the extension take up the whole interface if you currently only are using some of the tools, is there? Hopefully the commands will be easier to use and you will be able to configure the extension so that it fits you needs more closely. As you can see there are several new tools. Some of these are not very complicated and some of them are. They all have one thing in common though, that is that they are all the result of what you, the users, have been telling me you miss in ArcView. I will try to briefly go through the changes that have been made since version 1.1.

Buffer: There are now some more options when buffering polygons and lines. These include buffering vertices on polygons etc.
Distance: The distance command does not only calculate the distance but also the bearing to features in other themes.
Near: You can now include attribute data from the near theme so that you can easily see which features are the nearest.
Clip: There are no significant changes to the clip command.
EraseCover: There are no significant changes to the erasecover command
Update: There are no significant changes to the update command
Dissolve: Uses only the selected shapes.
Eliminate: Eliminate has a brand new feature, it doesn't ruin the attribute data from the theme anymore. Instead the attributes are copied from the polygon that has the greatest area.
Explode: There are no significant changes to the explode command
Generalize: This is a new command that generalizes or cleans a shape file. It uses the Douglas-Peucker algorithm.
MapJoin: There are no significant changes to the mapjoin command
Split: There are no significant changes to the split command
Intersect: Uses only the selected shapes.
Identity: Uses only the selected shapes.
Union: Uses only the selected shapes.
GraphicToShape: A new command that converts graphic to a shapefile. You can decide yourself which graphic types that should be included.
ShapeToGraphic: Converts a shapefile to graphics.
Convert shape: Converts the selected shapes to a shapefile of a different kind (point, line, multipoint, polygon).
MakeGrid: Makes a mesh based on the users input. Works much like generating a grid with ARC/INFO's generate command.
MoveXY: Moves a theme based on the users input.
Rotate: Rotates a shapefile with many different options.
CalculateCenter: Calculates the geographic/weighted center or just the centroids.
Contour: Generates contours from a point theme.
Tin: Generates a TIN from a point theme.
Thiessen: Generates thiessen polygons from a point theme.

As mentioned earlier these commands can be reached from three different places and this can all be configured by you. Hopefully this will make your work more efficient and fun.

Configure The extension will also include some very useful zoom tools that will allow you to save "zooms" and configure the different tool in a new revolutionary way. The tools will be added to a floating toolbar that makes it easy to work with your view. Configure The toolbar has three different modes so that is doesn't take up more space then necessary. You can configure the tools to zoom just as much as you want and how much extra to zoom when the shift key is pressed. The move tools can be configured to either move a certain rate in percent or a distance in map units. This will make your work more efficient - and the tools are really fun to use !
All tools come, of course, with the easy to use dialogs.
