Most parts of GeoWebShare can easily be customized. This includes:
- Unlimited number of users.
- Unlimited number of usergroups.
- Edit and or view permissions for each usergroup.
- Add support for virtually any type of dataset.
- Change any text, such as welcome message, title etc.
- Change any pictures and icons that are used.
- Change background color, text color and style of any object with CSS.
- Add support for different languages and different styles.
- Setup default options for new users (default languages etc).
- Restrict access to certain IP-addresses.
- Set server variables to optimize performance.
- Define what kind of metadata that shall be used.
- And more…
How can you use the possibilities to customize GeoWebShare to make the most out of
your implementation? Here follows a list with some of the things that can be done.
Your own look and feel
The first thing you would like to do is probably to change the look and feel of GeoWebShare
so that it fits your organization. You can easily change text, pictures, icons, colors etc. This
gives you the possibility to personalize GeoWebShare. Perhaps you would like to include more
thorough instruction on how to use GeoWebShare or guidelines for how to use GeoWebShare in
your organization?
Add dataset support
The second thing you probably want to do is to make sure that your implementation of GeoWebShare
supports the types of dataset that occur in your organization. GeoWebShare only includes
support for shapefiles and MIF-files when it's shipped, but you can easily add support for any
type of dataset. It don't even have to be geographic dataset, it can be word files, bmp-files
or whatever you want.
Change metadata
For each dataset you can easily define what type of metadata that shall be included. You
can even implement automatic metadata collection and/or the possibility to include pictures
in the metadata! There are two plug-ins available for free that help you implement this.
Dataset preview
Why not add the possibility to preview datasets with for instance ArcIMS? A plug-in for this is
available from SWEGIS.
Make GeoWebShare a web shop
Do you want to charge users for the datasets that are being downloaded? GeoWebShare is prepared to
support this as well!
