What
is Rainbow?
Easy Trace Group
has released a new software product - Rainbow. It is a complete system
intended to prepare color map raster material for printing, archiving or
vectorization. It allows repairing of errors or distortions introduced
in the scanning process or defects existed in the hardcopy source.
Initially RAINBOW
was only one of the additional applications of Easy Trace vectorizer, the
main product of Easy Trace Group company. But after obtaining new functionality
it became an independent program. Now the package is available in two variants
- as an additional application for Easy Trace vectorizer and as a separate
program.
What Rainbow
is intended for?
Rainbow is mainly
intended for processing color raster hardcopy. The program allows reducing
total image size, despeckle, improving image legibility, preparing thereby
such images for printing, or for use in various GIS. Binarizing provides
separation of initial image to monochrome rasters. Binarizing does not
require any additional preparation of an image after it has been just scanned.
Why Rainbow
was created?
Today a lot of software
manufacturers offer software products for processing rasters such as Adobe
PhotoShop or Corel PhotoPaint. But all these programs are intended, mainly,
for preparation of rasters to polygraphic printing and do not consider
the peculiarity of map material processing.
Color separation
should provide such a basic colors combination (mainly blue, purple, yellow
and black) in every pixel of initial image, that will ensure maximum close
color (at rasterization and printing) to the specified one. The quality
of separation is evaluated not on purity but on similarity of poligraphic
print colors to those specified on the raster.
Preparing map raster
material the main task is to separate the initial raster to basic colors
and specify the thematic layers: blue - hidrography, green - vegetation,
etc. At this the purity of separation is the main criterion, i.e. objects
belonging to one layer should not be placed on others.
Adobe PhotoShop
is obviously not intended for this operation and you have to spend a lot
of time, efforts and resources to get a satisfactory result. On the contrary
Rainbow enables carrying out this operation easily, quickly and with less
system resources.
Rainbow
possibilities.
- Carry out binarizing of initial
raster to obtain various thematic layers.
- Change the color intensity
of an image, from monochrome raster up to truecolor and vice versa.
- Substitute selected color
shades for the specified color directly on an initial raster.
- For more accurate image geometric
transformation image processing functions including color image classification,
geo-referencing, dark background removal, despeckle, cropping, rotation
and segmentation are available.
- Raster size restrictions
are eliminated.
- Scan raster images through
TWAIN-driver.
- Background mode for executing
operations enables you to continue working with the program while it is
being running.

interface of Easy Trace programs family.
Are there
any analogs to Rainbow?
Yes, there are.
